My mom was pretty positive there were no zippers to access the seat backs on her sofa, but after a little spelunking she was very surprised to find that, indeed, there were hidden zippers along the bottom back sides. If you can only get to the seat cushion, skip the Poly-fil and just pick up batting. For seat back access only: just Poly-fil.

Upholstered furniture may not find many takers, especially when it is damaged, torn, or stained. It can be frustrating to think about the fact that you once paid good money for a piece of furniture that now seems to be of no interest to you or anyone else. Unfortunately, with the exception of leather, upholstered furniture can depreciate greatly with use. It is difficult to get rid of it, even when you´re not looking to make money.

So get creative and display something you love! The most common thing to put on a sofa is a single piece of artwork, but if the artwork is bland or blends in with the wall the impact is minimal. If you really want to create an eye-catching focal point, a bold piece that practically jumps off the wall is the way to go. Try something very large in size, vibrant in color, or graphically appealing in design. Ultimately, the term "bold" is open to interpretation, but the idea is that when a person walks into the room their eye is immediately drawn to the piece because it’s so striking.

All moving parts on a sofa bed or reclining sofa should clear the fabric completely to avoid tearing. You don't want any injuries to yourself or damage to your upholstery from a faulty mechanism. When you check out the back of your sofa, there should be no bumps or hard spots. Run the palm of your hand over it. This is especially important in a tight back sofa. Not only will bumps and hard spots mar the look of your sofa over a short period of time, they will also feel uncomfortable.

To achieve a Scandi-inspired, minimalist look, pair a set of slouchy square pillows in one corner of the sofa (preferably one solid and one patterned), and prop a smaller, rectangular-shaped pillow in the center of the other cushion. Instead of predictably tucking a single pillow into the corner of your sofa, why not take inspiration from Cottage Cloth and place a set facing inward? We love her choice of contrasting striped fabric, too.
