For the seat cushions, I simply wrapped quilt batting around the entire seat and stuffed it back into the covers. A small amount of spray adhesive applied to the foam can help the batting stick to it so it stays in place once you put the covers back on. If possible, have someone help you put the covers back on the cushions. All those layers of batting make it a tight fit- but that is what you're looking for, so ask someone to lend a hand to make your job less painful.

Down-proof ticking: Ticking is the inner lining of a cushion, usually tightly woven, that helps keep tiny down feathers from moving to a cushion's exterior. Eight-way hand-tied springs: Tied springs are connected to one another with strong twine that runs front to back, side to side, and diagonally in both directions. Simply determine the lines of the sofa you want to accent and then nail in the tacks (try to place them at even intervals of roughly ½ inch). Just be sure to choose a solid part of the frame so you’ve got a solid foundation to nail the trim into. And it should go without saying that you cannot do this on a slipcovered piece – only on one that’s upholstered.

I usually recommend starting with the largest and most expensive item, which, in the case of a living room or family room, is usually the sofa. The sofa is usually a focal point, the seating area most often used, and, if the wrong choice is made, the source of the most complaint. If it is a very good quality sofa, and the cost of reupholstering it comes out less than getting a sofa of comparable value, by all means, go for it. You may want to get quotes from two or three different re-upholsterers for all fabric and parts, and then weigh it against what you would pay for a new sofa of the same quality.

Pads made out of a Dacron polyester fiber and down, known as Blendown pads, are wrapped around high-density foam. These pads can also be used with springs that have been wrapped up in foam. High-density foam surrounds the springs, which are then wrapped in down pads. The result is a soft surface with a strong, resilient support inside. This is a good option because the cushions do not lose their shape easily.

Webbing: Webbing consists of interwoven strips of synthetic material, attached to the wood frame of a sofa. It is typically used in place of support springs. Are you thinking of buying a sofa?
