Research » Why Research?

MukiBaum Treatment Centres is a centre of learning, not just for the people we serve but also families that have children with disabilities.

MukiBaum is also a place of learning for college and university students doing practical work placements and internships.  We provide learning and research opportunities for students from programs such as child and youth workers, direct care workers, developmental service workers, nursing, social work, expressive arts therapy, art therapy, drama therapy, music therapy and more.  (Please contact the Human Resources Department for further information)  We feel a sense of responsibility to contribute to the field of developmental and psychiatric complex disabilities in order to advance knowledge, develop strategies of support, inform policy and ethical practice, and continue to encourage innovation in treatment and care.

We believe that knowledge does not have to come only from universities or “think tanks” but can be produced by agencies on the front-lines of support for people with disabilities. We consider all of the MukiBaum family to be essential members of the research department as we find ourselves constantly looking to our staff and the people and families we serve for involvement, assistance and direction.
