Anytime you´re arranging furniture you have to think about balance. When too many visually heavy things are on one side of the room the entire space looks unbalanced. Since sofas tend to be large in scale they take up quite a bit of visual space, and they require something of equal weight across from them to balance out the room. This is why you often see two chairs placed directly across from a sofa. Together the chairs balance out the weight of the sofa.
You need to make sure it will fit through doorways, around corners, and up the stairs if necessary. DO have it covered in an appropriate fabric. If you have kids and pets you’ll want something that is either easy to clean or can hide spills and dirt. DO become familiar with sofa styles before choosing. Do you want high arms (tuxedo sofa), medium arms (lawson) low arms (bridgewater) or no arms (slipper)? D o you want curvy and round or straight and streamlined? Do you want one long cushion on the seat or several? Think about all these things before you buy.
These sofa buying tips have less to do with fabric selection and focus more on another aspect of sofa buying, namely, the quality of a sofa. The frame should not wobble or creak, it should be sturdy and sit squarely on the floor. Wobbly or creaky frames mean less sturdy joints, while a strong frame means your sofa will last you longer.
